DANVILLE, IL-- The Vermilion County Bobcats unveiled their road sweaters in front of a packed house at Danville Stadium, as 3,500 fans took in a Danville Dans doubleheader with a special hockey twist.
After an extra-innings affair in Game One, Bobcats staff members took to the field to unveil their road white designs, featuring a varsity-style connected "VC" for Vermilion County, a tri-colored collar uncommon in hockey, and multi-colored striping that forms a "V" shape along the bottom and the sleeves. Red, black, grey and white are the team's colors- in line with modern Illiana-area professional hockey (Chicago Blackhawks, Rockford Ice Hogs, Indy Fuel). Among those on hand to unveil the jerseys were owner Ellen Tully, Vice President of Broadcasting and Communications Casey Bryant and Ray Lilja, founder of Hockey On Your Block.
"We are so, so thrilled not just to be in this historic ballpark that has been here for 75 years," said Bryant in an address to the crowd, "but to bring hockey back where it belongs: in David S. Palmer Arena right here in Vermilion County. We are not just [Danville], but we are Newell, we are Tilton, we are Georgetown Township, we are everywhere in Vermilion County and beyond."
The Danville Dans wore Bobcats-themed jerseys for the second game of their doubleheader, besting the Champion City Kings 12-11. Fans in attendance participated in a silent auction for the game-worn Dans jerseys, with proceeds benefitting Danville Youth Hockey. Between jerseys selling out and a matching donation by Bobcats owner Ellen Tully, the Bobcats managed to raise over $4,200 for Danville Youth Hockey. The donation will go towards new jerseys, equipment and apparel for the newly-rebranded Jr. Bobcats Youth Hockey program.
